A source in the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine (GUR) confirmed to the Russian service of the BBC that the Russian A-50 long-range radar detection aircraft was shot down by a missile of the S-200 anti-aircraft missile system.

Earlier, the publication “Ukrainskaya Pravda” wrote about the fact that the Defense Forces of Ukraine shot down a Russian A-50 aircraft from a Soviet S-200 air defense system, citing its sources in the GUR. One of the interlocutors of the publication also claims that a crew of 10 people died in the downed plane on February 23.

“All 10 Russians who were on the plane died. Among them are five majors, three captains, an ensign and a lieutenant,” the source of “Ukrainskaya Pravda” quotes.

There is no independent confirmation of this information. The Ministry of Defense of Russia did not comment on the information.

The day before, sources in the Defense Forces of Ukraine said that the Russian A-50 was shot down by the Ukrainian military over the territory of the Sea of Azov. At the same time, Russian pro-war bloggers wrote about “friendly fire”.

On January 14, the second A-50 was shot down over the Sea of Azov, and then, among the versions given by Russian commentators, it was also called “friendly fire”, notes the BBC.
